WITH THE RETURN TO SCHOOL, PEDAGOGICAL VISITS RESUME AT SEVILLE CATHEDRAL

Pedagogical visits are a great occasion to be able to get closer to the smallest pieces of the holy story of Seville Cathedral. These visits are structured through two pedagogical itineraries, headed by Cathedral staff, and mainly meant for the education facilities in the Archdiocese of Seville, although educational centers from other parts of Spain will be welcomed as well.

ITINERARIES
SEVILLE CATHEDRAL, 775 YEARS OF FAITH

In 1248, the Cathedral of Seville was consecrated following the restoration of Christian worship in the city by sainted King Fernando III. From that moment onward, this building has been the church of the Archbishop of Seville and all its dioceses and is also one of the principal faith centers for Christianity.

The current gothic building is due to the construction work of the Cathedral Chapter, inspired over the course of the 15th century, then giving rise to intense architectonic, artistic, and religious work within its walls.

The aim of this itinerary is to understand how diverse artistic disciplines play a fundamental role in catechesis and evangelization so that we understand that fact that the protagonists of the story of this place oriented everything for and because of God.

The fundamental objective is the bring younger people to the Cathedral, allowing them to understand the significance of this building and everything housed inside it through its catechetical and evangelistic function, bearing in mind its patrimonial dimension.

BARTOLOMÉ ESTEBAN MURILLO, PAINTER OF LA SANTIDAD

The figure of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo is one of the most important in the history of painting. From a young age, he became one of the most distinguished painters in the city, requested by private individuals and institutions for multiple commissions. In a very religious Seville, his work reached standout status thanks to his ability to show a pleasant and quotidian vision of the divine with his brushes, fostering encounter with God through the contemplation of His creations. Upon uncovering of his work, we can affirm that Murillo continues today as one of the best evangelists and catechists – no one knew how art is a privileged channel for prayer and learning like he did.
