Monsignor Ramón Darío Valdivia Giménez

HIS EXCELLENCY AND THE MOST REVERENT MONSIGNOR RAMÓN DARÍO VALDIVIA GIMÉNEZ, AUXILIARY BISHOP OF Sevilla

Appointed Titular Bishop of Egabro and Auxiliary Bishop of Sevilla on April 1, 2023, he received episcopal ordination on May 27, 2023, in the Cathedral of Sevilla.

Ramón Darío Valdivia Giménez was born in Osuna (Sevilla) on December 16, 1974, and was ordained a priest by Monsignor Amigo Vallejo on September 14, 2003, during a Eucharistic celebration in the Crucero nave of the Cathedral of Sevilla.

His first pastoral assignments as a priest were in the parish of Nuestra Señora de Valme and Beato Marcelo Spínola, in Dos Hermanas, where he served as parochial vicar for one year, as well as chaplain at the Hospital del Tomillar and with the Sisters of Charity of Santa Ana.

Between 2004 and 2008 he studied in Rome, obtaining a degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University and a doctorate in Ecclesiastical Philosophy from the Pontifical Lateran University.

Upon returning to Sevilla, he was appointed pastor of Santa María de la Asunción, in Mairena del Alcor. He carried out his ministry there until July 2010, when he began his service at the Metropolitan Seminary as vice rector. The following year, he joined the Vocational Pastoral Team and began directing the Diocesan Commission for the Formation of Aspirants and Candidates to the Permanent Diaconate.

Teaching

Between 2012 and 2018, he served as Director of the Center for Theological Studies, now the Faculty of Theology “San Isidoro de Sevilla,” where he is a professor and director of the Department of Pastoral and History. On August 31, 2015, he began his ministry at the Parish of San Roque, in Sevilla, where he currently serves as pastor. He earned a Doctorate in Law from the Faculty of Law at the Universidad de Sevilla (2020) and is a professor of Law at the Centro de Estudios Universitarios Cardenal Spínola – CEU. Since September 2020, he has been a canon, and since July 2022, the Episcopal Vicar for the Sevilla Number 1 area.

He is the author of the following monographs:Llamada a la misión pacífica. La dimensión religiosa de la libertad en Bartolomé de las Casas (2011);  El nacimiento de la modernidad. Justicia y poder en el pensamiento de Bartolomé de las Casas  (2021); as well as other scholarly publications.
