THE “TVRRIS FORTISSIMA” SYMPOSIUM BEGINS ON NOVEMBER 19

The Tvrris Fortissima Symposium, organized by the Seville Cathedral Chapter in collaboration with the Magna Hispalensis Chair of Faith, Art and Culture of the San Isidoro de Sevilla Faculty of Theology, will take place between November 19 and 21.

This symposium is being held after the completion of the restoration of the four sides of the tower, a project that began in 2015 and will continue until 2025, before giving way to new phases of intervention.

The main objective of these conferences is to create a scientific meeting space that promotes interdisciplinary dialogue between prominent specialists, such as art historians, archaeologists, architects, and experts in heritage conservation. The initiative seeks to share the most relevant contributions and the most up-to-date information on the Almohad Giralda of Seville. Although it is especially aimed at an academic and specialized audience, it is also open to students and interested individuals who wish to delve deeper into this subject.

For three days, topics such as Almohad construction techniques, iconographic analyses of the decoration, comparative studies with other contemporary monuments, and innovative applications in restoration will be addressed. In addition, participants will have access to unpublished documentation, recent technical results, and will be able to integrate into specialized debates to advance the knowledge of this emblematic Andalusian symbol.

The work carried out so far on the Giralda has been recognized with several awards for its innovative approach to heritage conservation, uniting respect for tradition with modern methodologies.

The Seville Cathedral Chapter reiterates its commitment to the preservation of its valuable heritage, allocating a significant part of its annual budget to this mission.
