THE MAGI FROM THE EAST GIVE THEIR GIFTS TO THE CHILD WHO HAS BEEN BORN

On 6 January The Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord and 7 January, The Feast of the Baptism of Jesus, the Cathedral’s high altar will be on extraordinary display with the image of the Boy Jesus surrounded by various pieces pulled from the Cathedral treasury that symbolize the presence of the three Magi with their holy gifts: gold for a King, with the chest of royalty exalted by a star, frankincense for God that perfumes the prayer of the Eucharist, and myrrh as a tribute to the perfect humanity of Christ.

The Cathedral conserves approximately nine hundred pieces of goldsmithing, recently inventoried. They are a faithful testimony to the richness of its liturgical goods, its jewelry commissioned by the Chapter, the pieces funded by the donations of the faithful and numerous legacy gifts. These pieces are used, as on this occasion, for their catechetical or liturgical purpose, enriching the celebrations and bringing them closer to believers and visitors for their enjoyment and evangelist message.

The Solemn Mass of the Epiphany of the Lord can be followed live: 6 January, 10:00, led by the Dean: https://www.youtube.com/live/oo4nsZR5sO4?si=cQNocRpKkkhQAFvq
