THE CATHEDRAL CELEBRATES THE CONSECRATION OF THE NEW VIRGIN FOR THE CHURCH OF SEVILLE

Next Saturday, 13 January at six in the evening, the consecration of Pilar Trujillo Berraquero as a consecrated virgin will take place in the Cathedral’s Royal Chapel. This will be the first consecration celebrated by Monsignor José Ángel Saiz Meneses since he was names Archbishop of Seville. The ceremony will be broadcast on the Cathedral’s YouTube pagehttps://youtube.com/live/luWb8HynQGo?feature=share

Upon receiving Pilar as a consecrated virgin, the Ordo Virginum will be made up of eleven virgins in total and several girls in preparation. This is the oldest form of consecrated life in Christianity whose only superior is the Archbishop.

Ordo Virginum

All of them, upon being consecrated, make public their holy purpose of moving ever closer to Christ. They live out their mission in the Church based on three pillars: nuptials, that is to say, living as a wife of Christ; virginity to be completely devoted to Christ like the Virgin Mary, and diocesaneity or maternity, a mission that manifest in “being a symbol of the church wherever you are.”

The consecrated virgins live from their own work in various professions like professors in universities or schools, in the health field, or in law, and they have a diocesan mission entrusted to them in their churches or diocesan work. They live in their own homes or with their families. They meet each month to pray and to share and are served pastorally by a delegate in the name of the Archbishop.
