On 27 February to 2 March at 20:00, the Cathedral will host the celebration of aSolemn Quinary in honor of the blessed Cristo de la Buena Muerte in the retroquire of the Cathedral with the following order of worship: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Praying of the Holy Rosary, the Liturgy of the Word, the Student’s Prayer, Holy Mass, Blessing and Reservation. The pulpit was occupied by capitulars Isacio Siguero Muñoz, Manuel Cotrino Bautista, Álvaro Pereira Delgado, Antonio Rodríguez Babío y Francisco Román Castro.
On Sunday, 3 March at 11:00 the solemn Principal Service of Institution officiated by the pontifical Francisco José Ortiz Bernal, Dean of the Cathedral. In the Afternoon, the titular images of the hermandad will be moved to the university chapel. The return relocation will begin at seven in the evening.
For that purpose, the images of Cristo de la Buena Muerte and the Virgen de la Angustia, as previously announced, were relocated on foot to the Cathedral by the stations of the cross on Sunday, 25 February.
The images of the Blessed Cristo de la Buena Muerte and the Virgen de la Angustia can be admired on the following schedule: 8:00 to 10:30, free access through the San Miguel gate, and 10:45 to 16:00 through the usual entries for cultural visits to the Cathedral.
The solemn quinary recalls the years (1972 to 1982) in which the Hermandad celebrated Quinary services in the first metropolitan church with the intention of “being able to offer academics and Catholic Sevillians in general the opportunity to access some appropriate and revamped Lenten exercises” in correspondence with the special bonds that join the Cathedral Chapter to the Hermandad and that flourished with the attainment of the title of Patriarchal.
This designation is a result of the relationships established between the Cofradía and the aforementioned Chapter, rooted in the authorization to celebrate Quinaries in the Cathedral. In accordance with that decision, the Junta de Oficiales agreed to name it brother of honor, formally requesting the charter of Hermandad Capitular. The petition was accepted by the Cathedral Chapter, and they were added to the shield of the Hermandad la Cruz Patriarcal in September of 1978.
