TECHNICAL STAFF OF THE MUSEO DE BELLAS ARTES UNDERTAKES REGULAR MAINTENANCE OF CRISTO DE LA CLEMENCIA (CHRIST OF CLEMENCY)

As with every year, on Tuesday, 20 February the technical staff of Seville’s Museo de Bellas Artes, in coordination with the Metropolitan Chapter, will perform a conservation treatment on the 1603 sculpture “Cristo de la Clemencia” by Juan Martínez Montañés, which consists of surface inspection cleaning of the piece, which has been in the care of the Cathedral since 1845. On Wednesday, 21 February, according to the plan, the scaffolding will be taken down first thing in the morning for the final prayer of the Lenten catechesis.

The Seville Cathedral Chapter, following the pioneering example of the implementation of the Program of Control and Maintenance, continues with this important preventative work in all areas of the building on both the interior and the exterior of the building itself and the numerous assets housed within the Cathedral.
