With the imposition of ashes today, Wednesday, begins a new liturgical season – Lent. To mark the occasion, the Metropolitan Chapter is starting up various catechetical and cultural activities that will bring believers and visitors closer to the Easter Ministries.

Over the course of the day, the Cathedral will celebrate masses with imposition of ashes during the regular masses at 8:30, 9:00, 10:00, 12:00. To see the mass schedule: https://www.catedraldesevilla.es/culto/horarios-de-misa/

The 20:00 mass will be led by the Archbishop of Seville, Monsignor José Ángel Saiz Meneses.

Three topical chapels containing masterpieces of international art pertaining to the Passion of Christwill also remain open: Capilla de la Piedad along with the tomb of Christopher Columbus; Santa Ana Chapel y Chapel de los Jácomes.

These chapels can be visited during opening hours of the Cathedral, from 8:00 to 17:00. From 8:00 to 10:30 access will be through Puerta de San Miguel and Puerta de los Palos from 10:45 to 17:00 and from 10:45 to 17:00 through the authorized cultural visit doors: San Cristóbal and Lagarto.

Another scheduled activity is the Lenten catechetical visits at 17:00, which, due to the strong response on the part of the faithful, isfull.

This Lenten season, the Miserere by Hilarión Eslava will once again ring out in the Cathedral on 16 March at 20:30. Continuing with the Lenten ceremonies, on 18, 19, and 20 March, also at 20:30, the the 40th “José Enrique Ayarra” Lenten Organ Concert Series will take place.

This series will consist of four recitalsfeaturing both domestic and international performers: Susana G. Lastra, Jean-Christophe Geiser, Miguel Ángel García y Giulio Mercati accompanied by soprano Lidia Basterretxea.

The Cathedral will also host various brotherhood events. On Monday, 19 February, the hermandades’ traditional stations of the cross el Señor de la Redención and on 25 February at 21:15 the heads of theBrotherhood of Students will arrive to preside over the solemn Quinary to commemorate the Centenary of its founding.
