On the occasion of the centenary of the Virgen de los Reyes paso, designed at the end of the 19th century, the Cathedral Chapter decided on the construction of a new tumbilla, following the model designed by Juan Talavera Heredia created in the elm embroidery workshops, which was premiered on 15 August, 1924.
This new work, which will be used in procession, will make possible, above all, the restoration of the original. It will also allow for its storage or exhibition with adequate maintenance measures.
The design work was carried out by draftsman and designer Francisco Javier Sánchez de los Reyes.
The embroidery was done in the distinguished Santa Bárbara studio, with Joaquín López González, the recognized specialist in gold, silver, and silk embroidery acting as technical and artistic director.
The first outing of the tumbilla will be next 8 December on the occasion of the procession for the closure of the 2nd International Congress of Hermandades y Piedad Popular.
