SAINT CLEMENT’S DAY, COMMEMORATION OF THE CONQUEST OF SEVILLE

Today, Sunday, November 23, marks the anniversary of the conquest of Seville. On that date in 1248, coinciding with the feast of Saint Clement, the history of the city marked a milestone: Seville was recovered for the Christian faith with the triumphal entry of King Ferdinand III, leading the Castilian troops, into a city that until then had been under the rule of the caíd Axafat.

We remind you that the events in the Cathedral of Seville, on the occasion of this day, will be held tomorrow, November 24.

In the Treasure Room of the Cathedral of Seville is this reliquary of Saint Clement. It is an anonymous work of the 16th century, made of silver in the shape of a chalice. The cup is made of agate stone. It was solemnly presented to the Cathedral by D. Baltasar del Río, Bishop of Scalas.
