THE CATHEDRAL CELEBRATES MASS IN ENGLISH EVERY SATURDAY

La Catedral de Sevilla celebra todos los sábados a las 17:00 horas en la Capilla de la Antigua una misa íntegra en inglés como iniciativa pastoral de integración para fieles de todo el mundo.

La Catedral es, sobre todas las cosas, un templo de culto, tal y como recordó el Portavoz del Cabildo Metropolitano, Marcelino Manzano, ante esta gran iniciativa pastoral: «Además de los muchos visitantes que recibe la Catedral, también son muy numerosos los fieles que acuden a las misas diarias, y entre ellos, muchos vienen del extranjero».

Esta iniciativa fue impulsada por el capitular Herminio González Barrionuevo, Maestro de Capilla jubilado e ilustre musicólogo. Durante sus cuarenta y seis años como sacerdote, tuvo la oportunidad de celebrar eucaristías durante los meses de verano en Estados Unidos. Esta experiencia lo motivó a introducir breves explicaciones o fragmentos de la homilía en inglés durante las misas dominicales del mediodía en la Catedral hace algunos años, al notar la creciente presencia de fieles extranjeros en las celebraciones.

The Seville Cathedral celebrates a full Mass in English every Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in the Antigua Chapel.

The Cathedral is, above all, a temple of worship, as the Spokesperson for the Metropolitan Chapter, Marcelino Manzano, pointed out in response to this important pastoral initiative: "In addition to the many visitors the Cathedral receives, there are also many faithful who attend daily Masses, and among them, many of these visitors come from abroad."

Therefore, the Cathedral Chapter adopted this inclusive measure for faithful from all over the world who seek in the church a place of true encounter with God and with their neighbors.

This initiative was promoted by Chapter Member Herminio González Barrionuevo, retired Chapel Master and distinguished musicologist. During his forty-six years as a priest, he had the opportunity to celebrate Eucharists during the summer months in the United States. This experience motivated him to introduce brief explanations or excerpts of the homily in English during the Sunday midday Masses at the Cathedral a few years ago, after noticing the growing presence of foreign faithful at the celebrations.
