THIS AFTERNOON THE 2ND TRAINING AND MUSICAL PRACTICE WORKSHOPS BEGIN

Seville Cathedral is hosting, from today, April 14, until the 16th, the 2nd Training and Musical Practice Workshops in Gregorian chant and choral singing. This initiative is organised in collaboration with the Diocesan Delegation for Liturgy and the San Isidoro Faculty of Theology of Seville.

The sessions will take place from 7:00 PM in the Cathedral’s Trascoro and are aimed at choirs, conductors, choral groups, instrumentalists, organists, chapel ensembles, choir schools, pastoral workers and, in general, anyone interested in liturgical music.

In this edition, the course will be taught by Professor René Hernández, who will focus his teaching on the Marian antiphons throughout the liturgical year.

The organisers emphasise the importance of these compositions in devotion to the Virgin Mary, noting that they occupy a privileged place within the Church’s tradition. They are short liturgical pieces dedicated to the Mother of God, especially present in the Liturgy of the Hours at the end of Compline, and which are also sung in many communities at the conclusion of Mass.

They also highlight their spiritual and formative value: beyond their antiquity, the Marian antiphons remain alive in current liturgical practice, constituting a true school of prayer. Through them, they explain, the faithful learn to contemplate Mary within the mystery of Christ, to invoke her with confidence, and to connect the liturgy with their personal experience of faith.

These workshops, integrated into the Chair of Liturgy ‘San Isidoro de Sevilla’ and the Chair ‘Magna Hispalense for Faith, Art and Culture’, aim not only to deepen the study of these pieces, but also to facilitate their practical learning for their correct performance in celebrations.

These workshops are designed for a wide range of participants connected with sacred music:

  • Choirs and choir directors.
  • Choral groups, choir schools and chapel choirs.
  • Instrumentalists and organists.
  • Pastoral workers and those interested in liturgical music.
