The IAPH receives the pieces that complete the Corpus Canopy set for intervention, commissioned by the Cathedral Chapter

The Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH) has received the textile and ornamental pieces that complete the set of the Corpus Christi Canopy of the Cathedral. Ana Isabel Gamero, the church’s conservator, attended the technical handover. This intervention is a direct commission from the Cathedral Chapter to protect its artistic treasures.

Alongside the church’s conservator, key project leads from the regional institution took part in the handover: José Luis Gómez Villa, Head of the IAPH Intervention Centre; Araceli Montero, Head of the Treatment Area; Lourdes Fernández, the conservation-restoration specialist responsible for the direct intervention on the textiles; and María López, preventive conservation specialist, responsible for ensuring the environmental care and protection of the materials.

This imposing Rococo-style textile structure, originally commissioned in 1769 by Cardinal Francisco de Solís Folch y Cardona from the embroiderer Felipe Lazari, is made up of eight pieces of damask and crimson red velvet. Historically used to adorn the altar of the trascoro during the solemnity of Corpus Christi, the work now faces restoration to correct the alterations caused by the passage of time.
