Seville Cathedral is preparing for an intense liturgical calendar next month, a period during which it will host five days of celebrations where young people and adults from the Archdiocese will reaffirm their faith and Christian commitment. More than a thousand people will receive the sacrament of Confirmation, a fundamental step that perfects baptismal grace and strengthens the mission of the faithful as witnesses of Christ in the world.
The ceremonies will take place every Friday in May at 7:00 PM (on the 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th), in the Retrochoir of the Cathedral.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the sacrament of Confirmation binds the faithful more closely to the Church, endowing them with a special strength to spread and defend the Faith through word and deed. This grace, which completes Christian initiation along with Baptism and the Eucharist, roots the believer more deeply in their divine filiation, strengthening their identity and commitment as a witness of Christ.
Pope Leo XIV emphasizes that Confirmation strengthens the common priesthood received in Baptism, uniting the faithful more closely with the Church and enriching them with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. This consecration impels the baptized to be witnesses of Christ through words and deeds, assuming an active mission.
