The exhibition “Per Me Reges Regnant” continues, inviting visitors on a unique journey through centuries of Marian devotion and to discover the close and historic relationship between the Patron Saint of Seville and the Crown of Spain.
In this explanatory video, Manuel Soria Campos, Canon of Seville Cathedral and Chief Chaplain of San Fernando, explores the historical milestones of this devotion. His analysis details the profound significance of royal patronage and how the different monarchies—from Ferdinand III the Saint to Queen Isabella II—have promoted the cult and enriched the heritage of the image throughout the centuries.
The origin of this bond dates back to 1248, when the Virgin of the Kings presided over the triumphal entry of Ferdinand III following the reconquest, consolidating a devotion that Alfonso X the Wise immortalized in his cantigas.
Likewise, the tour highlights moments such as her projection in America, the extraordinary processions in supplication from the 14th century onwards, and the institutional honors that complete an invaluable spiritual heritage.
The exhibition may be visited free of charge until 29 August at the Murillo Hall of the Cajasol Foundation.
