A group of visually impaired people takes part in the “Holiness” guided tour at Seville Cathedral

Seville Cathedral has hosted a visit from a group of visually impaired people from the DETUCOSE association, who participated in the “Holiness” itinerary. This educational and spiritual tour passes through various areas of the temple to highlight and share the life and testimony of numerous saints and blesseds linked to the history of the Archdiocese of Seville.

In order to facilitate the visit for this group, the guide’s explanations focused on exhaustive descriptions that allowed for an understanding of the surroundings, adapting the temple’s content to offer a more accessible and educational experience.

As the group passed through the Choir area, and as an exceptional addition to the usual itinerary for this tour, attendees were offered the opportunity to hear the chords of the organ. This purely acoustic resource was introduced with the aim of providing a sensory dimension to complement the architectural and historical explanations of the monument.

The tour concluded at the Prince’s Gate, where participants were able to use the Cathedral’s tactile model. This bronze recreation, built to scale, represents a significant advancement in the integration of blind or visually impaired people. Thanks to its level of detail, the piece allows for a tactile and precise perception of the dimensions, roofs, and actual volume of the Gothic floor plan and the Giralda.

This initiative is part of the activities promoted by the Cathedral Chapter to bring historical, artistic, and religious heritage closer to everyone. The incorporation of this resource removes barriers and reinforces their commitment to inclusion, ensuring that all visitors, regardless of their abilities, can discover the structure of Seville Cathedral through touch.
